Wednesday Warpath

leave a comment »

Today I kind of feel like an old Indian, or is that Native American, brave hitting the the old warpath. It’s just part of the old daily routine for this old “brave” as he heads out to do his “warpathing”. I guess the braves of old had to lament doing their jobs every now and then. I think I feel just about how they did when they had to go out and do “battle”. It’s just my battle is a little more tame. Was that General Custer I just saw?

I am working on two articles for the new magazine. I will have to really get on the ball with them. I have most of the research done. I just have to get it all down on paper. I also need a few quotes from people and sometimes those are hard to get. It will all work out nicely. This weekend I will have to make a big push in the whole deal.

Work was pretty good yesterday. I hope it will be that way again today. We need more work in. And I really think we are going to see it come in, albeit little by little and a bit more slowly than I think it should. I am optimistic about it all.

We are having some very hot days. Our temps are not reaching the century mark but they are coming close. And it’s dry, dry, dry. We just can’t catch a whole lot of rain. I will check in my garden when I get in this afternoon. I might have to give it a good watering. I might be able to wait another day or two, but it’s going to be hard. My plants don’t need to suffer.

My wife will be home later tonight. I will go and pick her up at the airport. She was in the middle of the earthquake out in California, but she survived. It will be good to have her home.

I will run now. I have things to do. I have a bunch of starving animals. They are just about starved to death. So I better go and feed them. Then I will continue on with my regular morning stuff. More later!!

EARTHQUAKE

leave a comment »

The e-mail come on my computer screen at work around 1:45 Central time yesterday. It was from my wife. It read:

“I SWEAR we are having an earthquake. Call you in a few.”

My wife is in L.A. on a business trip. She had mentioned the fact that there could be an earthquake when she was out there. I think she was kind of silently, well, maybe not so silently, hoping there would be one. She better be careful for what she wished for next. Or if she is going to wish make sure it’s about plenty money for us or something.

She was in the middle of the whole deal. This was just a moderate quake that did little damage and no one was injured. But she was in the middle of it. I can just see it; in about 20 years the quake will have been about a magnitude 8 on the Richter scale!

The old girl is safe though. In the past couple of weeks she’s survived a root canal and an earthquake. I might have trouble getting rid of her!! LOL

Don’t Apologize For Me

leave a comment »

First off the whole thing is a sham. The guy who introduced the bill is a while lawmaker from Memphis who faces a tough primary battle next week. He won the seat several years ago when six blacks split the vote and he emerged as a the only one left standing. Then it was done by a voice vote. So no one had to really “vote” at all. So this whole thing just stinks from the outset.

And don’t apologize for me. I have not enslaved anyone. I have never been close to doing that. So save it all. Slavery was not a good thing, but it happened way too long ago to be affecting what we do today. The people affected by slavery, both slave owners and slaves themselves, have been long gone. We need to push forward and look ahead.

So don’t issue any more apologies for me m wonderful Congress. When I need to apologize I will do it myself. And I have to do a lot of that to start off with.

Monday Malcontent

leave a comment »

It’s another bad Monday and I will be a little malcontent today. I seem to have awoke just a little off kilter. My wife is in California on a business trip and I always get a little discombobulated when she is not around. I will go into some detail about it all and then it will be time to get up and get going on this Monday and this first day of a new week.

My wife left early Saturday and got to California. She was able to do some exploring, she’s in L.A., with a friend of hers. They spent the day taking in the sights. Yesterday she was able to walk around some and then go to a Dodgers game. Last night was the opening reception. She went to that and then a couple of parties. She’s there for a trade association meeting. She starts her day at 7:15 this morning. She’s going to have a good time but she will be busy. She will be tired when she gets home.

Another source of being a little off kilter, but excited at the same time, is that I have latched several assignments with a new magazine. I always get like this before I write an article. Once I get into it I seem to do fine. I am excited about it all. It’s a high school sports magazine and I am ready to do some good writing for the rag.

I had a good weekend. Without the wife here I just did some work outside. I got in my garden and planted some more seeds. I spaded up some areas. I just had fun working outside. It was hot, but it was still fun.

I am ready to get my day started. I know it will be a little tough to begin, but by the end of the day I will be fine. I hope we get more projects in at work. It was slow last week. I need to get much busier. I will write more later.

Live Like the Iroquois

leave a comment »

(first posted on Bluegoose)

The Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy states, “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.”

What wonderful words to live by. The Indians, or Native Americans, had profound effects on this great land and probably their laws and traditions affected our Founding Fathers in some minor ways. Yet, the love these peoples had for the Earth and each other is advice we can all take to heart.

My first blog here is an attempt to implore all of us to think like the Iroquois. Think about how what we do today affects many people down the line. Seven generations may seem like a long time, but in terms of the planet it’s just a millisecond in time. That plastic jug will still be here seven generations from now. The pollutants we spill in lakes and rivers that make their way to our oceans will still be here. The nuclear waste we generate today will still exist in it’s infancy seven generations from now.

So let’s think of not only the planet now, but of how we will affect it generations from now. Let’s think the Iroquois, peoples who a profound love and understanding for the Earth. They cared for the planet long before it go to the critical stages.

“Medical Attention, Each Morning”

leave a comment »

Someone mentioned at work that of all the days in the week Monday is the day most heart attacks occur. They also occur early in the day. As I listened to the conversation I realized I probably did not have to worry about medical problems in the mornings.

My alarm clock rings very early. After the alarm chimes my male cat, Pierre’, a tuxedo variety, sprints to the bed. I can hear him coming full blast. He begins at my feet and works his way up to my head. I think he is trying to make sure I am up so I can feed him and his brothers and sisters.

His sister, Casey, a black Lab gets into the act next. She begins to nudge me and prod me. I am thinking she is trying to make sure I get up to feed her and her brothers and sisters.

I have been wrong all along though. I can see now this is my babies way of giving me “medical” care each morning. I am pronounced fit to head out into the world each morning. After the “cat” scan and “lab” tests I am surely in great shape.

Thoughts For Thursday: Hurricane, Weather, Work, Weekend!!

leave a comment »

I am up on this fine Thursday morning. I got up pretty early and I will get to do my full compliment of writing for the morning. That makes my day start off well and feel great. So the day is already heading in the right direction.

Hurricane Dolly hit the Texas coast around South Padre Island. It had 100 mile per hour winds. So it packed a little punch. Right now it has moved inland over extreme South Texas and is dumping rain on the region. It will continue to move slowly west and dump rain.

We have not had much rain, or wind, yet. I know the wind won’t be much, but we should get some rain today. The forecasters have been showing rain for us since yesterday morning. We’ve had about six drops so far. Maybe today it will begin to rain some.

I will get to work in a bit. It will be a great day. We don’t have a whole lot of work. It’s must not coming in.

The weekend will be here soon. My wife is leaving Saturday for a trip to California. So I will be all alone. I will have a great time. I will make sure I get a lot done.

That’s all for the start of my morning. I am ready to get the day rolling and then get back home to some great fun. More later!!

Obama: We Already Have A President!!

leave a comment »

This is a bit humorous and maddening at the same time. Barack Hussein Obama is on a “fact-finding” trip to many countries in the Middle East and Europe. And the guy is talking like he’s the President of the U.S. I think this is funny on several fronts.

The big funny to me is that his supporters are just too stupid and uninformed to get the big picture. They should be telling the guy: “Look you are way ahead of the game. We already have a President and it’s not you.”

Plus the game is already a Senator. If he wants our troops out of Iraq in 16-months why did he not offer a bill to do so? If he wants peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians why did he not offer a plan in our Congress?

Obama has pretty much promised all things to all people on his trip. He’ll fight in Afghanistan. He’ll get us out of Iraq. He won’t put up with Iran’s bull (now that’s a big shift). We’ll stay friends with the Israelis. We’ll get the Palestinians their own state. And Obama has not even made it to Europe to start promising stuff there.

I really do think Obama’s candidacy will show the world how stupid we Americans really are. We should be looking at the guy and asking, “What are you doing?”We are not doing that by any stretch of the imagination. We are allowing ourselves to be bullied by the Obama faction.

Also, why don’t you think John McCain does not have to go globe trotting on a trip such as this to gain some credentials. That’s because he’s been doing it for years. He does not have to.

Wednesday Worries: Dog, Hurricane, Work!!

leave a comment »

It’s Hump Day. I love on Wednesday afternoon about 3 pm. I begin to see just a little sliver of light at the end of the work week tunnel. It’s not very big, just speck really, but still in can see the end. I am not really that worried, but I do have a few concerns for the day.

My dog, Suzie, who I wrote about in my first entry of the day is doing OK. I am just a little worried about her. She is not scratching nearly as much as she has been and you can tell she feels much better. She is my baby though and I am going to worry about her. She does not do not feeling well and all good. She has her big brother and sister, Charlie and Casey, to look over her.

Hurricane Dolly is bearing down on the Texas\Mexico border. It won’t be that bad. The storm could grow into a Category 2 storm though. Where I live we will just get some rain, hopefully, and maybe a little wind. We will see.

I will have to get ready for work. We are not real busy, but at least we have some work trickling in.

I met with a nice lady about doing some writing for an online and print publication dealing with high school sports and athletes. This opportunity looks good and promising. We will see. I think the lady liked me and I hope they call me back to do some writing. I am ready for another magazine job.

That’s all for today. I slept longer than I normally do and now have to hurry to catch up with it all. I will write more later.

I Felt So Bad!!

leave a comment »

We have a Border Collie named Suzie. She has been with us for over a year now and she is a wonderful animal. She is just the sweetest thing around. We got Suzie from our local vet. She lived at the vet clinic after she was found wandering around as a small puppy.

Border Collies are quite rambunctious and active. Suzie was adopted twice from the vet clinic before we got her and she was brought back twice. The people who adopted her said they could not do anything with her. She was just too wild.

So my baby stayed at the clinic for about 14 weeks all total. She was just about to be sent to the Animal Control Center here where death was all but certain for her. I was bringing one of my cats in for a checkup when I met Suzie for the first time. She was just adorable. I told my wife about it all and she went and got Suzie. We have been having such ever since that happened.

My baby girl has some skin problems. She has some food allergies for the most part. We give her special food that is supposed to help. Yet, we noticed that she was still scratching after a while. So we needed to take her back to the vet for a checkup. My wife and I both work so I was going to bring the old girl early yesterday morning and leave her for the vet to check her out. We’d pick her up in the afternoon.

I brought my girl and I could tell something was wrong right away. She did not want to go in. And when I got her in she did not want to go in the back with the technician. I really think she thought we were going to leave her and not come back and get her. She was so sad when I left her. I was so sad when I left her.

I walked out to my truck and just sat and cried for a bit. I did not how to express to my baby that she was going to be OK and that I was going to come back and get her. I even called several times during the day and made them put the phone to her ear so I could talk to her.

Well, things turned out well in the end. Suzie just had a few problems with her skin again and that will be taken care of. My wife picked the baby up and she was wild and ready to come home. As I write this she is resting with her brother and sister and everyone is happy. I was just some sad when I left my old baby!!
