An Obituary: Sam (cat)
At 9:46 AM this morning we had our beloved cat, Sam, put down. She was 18 years old and had seen her health decline in recent months. For the past few days she really went down and she refused to eat this morning. When I saw that I knew it was time.
Sam was born in Jackson, Mississippi and lived in Jackson, Lafayette, Louisiana, Grand Coteau, Louisiana and San Antonio, Texas. She was pretty well traveled for a cat. She was found in the median on County Line Road in Jackson, hiding in the bushes where someone had tossed her. She looked more like a rat than a cat. My wife fished her out of the bushes and brought her home.
Sam had a pretty interesting life and did some stuff. She jumped on the Christmas tree and knocked it over when she was about six months old. Once she pushed on the window in our house and the pane fell out and Sam with it. Sam went missing for several days until our Dalmatian dog, Dottie, found her. Sam was also part of several jailbreaks at our house with her brothers and sisters.
Sam never backed down from a fight. She would stare her dogs down and eat their food, daring the dogs to challenge her.
Sam was preceded in death by her sisters, Callie (cat), Annabelle (cat), Dottie (dog) and Bandit (dog). She is survived by Pierre’ (cat), Casey (dog), Charlie (dog) and Suzie (dog).
Sam was a very sweet cat who was always busy. When the alarm clock rang in the morning she did not associate the alarm with someone getting up. Sam assumed it was the bell for someone to get up and feed her. She always had a great appetite. When she did not eat I knew it was the end. Sam would always check on new things in the house and nothing new every escaped her eye or inspection.
She will be missed sorely. I am so very sad at losing her. My wife is really sad. We will all miss her, but she will live on in Heaven with her departed brothers and sisters. Rest well, Sam. You are in a much better place right now. We love you!!
