My Day: Hurtling Hurricane; Weak At Work; Terrible Tuesday

leave a comment »

As I begin my Tuesday it appears to be a terrible day ahead. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving. My day will be great and things will work out just fine in the end. At least, that’s my plan.

We have a storm, not a hurricane just yet, Dolly hurtling toward south Texas. This storm will probably hit near the Texas\Mexico border, but it will bring winds, high surf and much rain to some areas. We need some rain here in San Antonio and I am hoping the rain makes it this far north. The storm is still organizing. So I will continue to monitor it for whatever it does.

Work is weak. We do not have much to do right now. I really thought things were turning around and I believe they are. We just hit a little bump in the road. I guess time will tell about it all. Maybe I really do need to dust off my old resume’!

There is some good news in it all. I will meet with a lady today about some writing. I will report more on it later. It’s going to be writing for sports which I can do easily. So I am looking forward to our meeting.

I will keep this short. I have several more things to write. Then it will be time to do my morning stuff. More later!!

T. Boone Pickens: Where’s The Plan? Where’s The Plan?

leave a comment »

At the end of the musical, “The Music Man”, Mayor Shinn asks “Where’s the Band? Where’s The Band”! It’s in response to Professor Harold Hill supposedly scamming the town folk into buying into a boys band that was not going to happen. There was a band though, albeit not a great one. But there was a band.

I had been hearing a lot about Pickens and his “plan”. So I got online last night to check it out. There are pages and pages of pictures and stuff, but I really saw no plan. As in, who do I send my money to? I mean if he’s generating electricity by wind power he must want to get paid! Yet, I saw none of that.

I think his energy plan mimics Enron’s right now!! LOL. I am sure that one day there will be plenty of wind turbines producing power in the Texas Panhandle. But I think old “T” is just blowing hot air right now. He wants us all to sign up so he can pressure Congress, the next President and the authorities in the local panhandle area to bow down to him and some of his wishes.

While the “plan” could be a great one, I think, right now it’s just some nebulous idea to provide us with a small amount of our energy needs in the future. And the future is what worries me. There is no timetable on this “plan”. There is no set design to this “plan”. There really is nothing to this “plan” yet.

I do believe these alternative energy plans are great. But we need some concrete evidence of what is going to happen, not some nebulous idea of what can happen.

Obama: One Whirlwind Trip Is Not Going To Cut It!!

with one comment

Rational people with common sense realize the title of this post is right on. Let’s be real here though. Obama supporters, the big media, liberals, lefties and “Dimocrats” are not rational people with any common sense. This is just humorous. These people think one, several week long, globe trotting, whirlwind trip is going to give Barack Hussein Obama all the foreign policy credentials he needs!! It’s just nuts.

Even if you buy that, and for the sake of argument I will say the trip will do him some good, he’s still a long ways behind John McCain and his foreign policy experience. So if you think a short trip to visit a bunch of countries is foreign policy experience what does McCain’s many years, many trips and all that amount too.

How crazy is the idea that by going on this trip Obama will be set for foreign policy? I just do not understand it all. I may have limited knowledge in this old head of mine, but I do have tons of common sense. You can’t gain foreign policy experience by flying to a few countries in a couple of weeks. It’s just not plausible to even believe something like that can happen.

Well, I better take that back. We are not fooling with plausible people when we talk to Obama supporters!!

It Went South; Hurricane?; Monday!!

leave a comment »

It’s another Monday and I hate them. I have to motivate myself to get started and that’s hard to do on a Monday.

I missed work on Friday. I woke up feeling good about it all and then it went south; in a hurry. I had a kidney stone attack. I did pass the stone later in the day as I waited at the doctors office. So it was not that bad. I just hurt some. And the stones do hurt. In the end it came out all right (pun intended)!!

My weekend was Ok after that. I just took it easy. I was sore, but it was not that bad. I watered my garden and planted some more seeds. I mowed the yard and watered it good. I got a haircut. My wife and I did some shopping for groceries. I prepared several nice meals, including one of my specialties, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. It was very good. I also made some onion rings Saturday and they were good also.

We have a disturbance, well a tropical storm now off the Yucatan. It will move across that peninsula and get into the Gulf of Mexico and head northwest. It will be a minimal hurricane when it hits land. That should occur Wednesday near the border of Texas and Mexico. It won’t bring any devastation, but it will bring rain and that will be welcome. I will monitor the whole thing.

It’s time to go. I have to start my normal morning routine for my animals and get ready for work. More later!!

President Bush is Just Stupid: Pigs and Mustangs

leave a comment »

Come on Bush!! The government plans to shoot pigs and horses. How stupid is this? The President could make himself look pretty good by stopping this, but he’s too stupid to do so. He needs some help in looking a little better than he does. The guy is beginning to baffle me.

Our military is going to shoot pigs. Then our military doctors heading to Iraq will work on them and get some “training”. How dumb is this? Do we use pigs as soldiers in Iraq? I thought we were using real men and women!! This is not terribly hard to figure out. If we did not fight wars we would not need military doctors. But we have decided to fight wars with people. So send the doctors to Iraq and Afghanistan and wherever and let them work on real people. Leave the pigs alone. This plan is just ghastly.

Out west somewhere the government has a herd of 30,000 Mustangs. They are figuring this is too many. The solution! Shoot some of them. How about shoot some of the idiots making this decision. Why do they have so many? I bet they reproduce from time to timed! Why not just spay and neuter them? This is another ghastly program that should be stopped. The Mustangs roamed the area long before humans did.

The President is fond of executive orders and Presidential signing decrees. He needs to use something like this right now to forbid killing the pigs and Mustangs. If he does not I will just have to figure the guy might really be stupid!!

Friday Frolic

with 2 comments

Today is Friday. I LOVE Friday’s. I still have to get through my work day, but I can do that. It will be a great day with much fun and frolic after work. The wife is going to enjoy her day also. Then we can have a great weekend.

Of course, it will be hot. I will have to get in my garden and sweat some. I have some work to do in the yard also. It’s good to sweat at times. It’s good for the body. It’s good for the soul. I will make sure I don’t overdo it though.

I need to really try and write some over the weekend. I just don’t take and make the time to do so. I might try and write some in the middle of the night. I love doing that. I just don’t take the time to do so. I can already see the first line of my writing, “It was a dark and stormy night…………..” LOL. Sorry Snoopy!!

I will make a plan for my weekend and write it down. I do much better when I do that. I am sure I will cook something. I might not grill, but I will do something in the culinary vein. I am sure we will go out and eat once or twice.

So I have to go. I am ready to take on my day and the world at least for a little bit. More later!!

Reid, Pelosi: Nuts, Just Plain Nuts!!

with one comment

And the rest of the Democrats for the most part follow close behind. Obama is in there also. Or NoBama as I see it in places now. The left, liberals, Democrats, big media and a few select Republicans (read Chuck Hagel and others) are just plain nuts. I can throw in idiotic, stupid, crazy, imbeclic (is that a word?) and many more.

I just don’t know where people like Reid and Pelosi come from. Where do they get them? Who elects these kind of people? I am at a loss to explain how the Democrats have gotten so devoid. Devoid of what? Just about anything that is good! Let’s look at just a few examples to prove my case.

Pelosi says President Bush’s administration has been a “total failure”. That’s just nuts. The guy has been at war with the left, liberals, big media, Democrats, and must about the rest of the world since he took office. How can anyone be effective with that against him? Yet, we have done pretty well. If you haven’t done well and think things are going bad, like you got a loan you shouldn’t have gotten and couldn’t pay it, that’s your fault. For the Speaker of the House to make a declaration such as this is just absurd. When she took office gas was $2.20 a gallon. That was too much for the Democrats. They have promised to do something about it. Well, I guess they did in a way. Gas is now $4 a gallon and she says it’s killing Americans. It’s not the gas that’s killing Americans. It her and her brethren.

How about Reid? He asks who’s scared of the President. “His approval rating is 29%”, Reid tells us. Do you think this idiot realizes the Congress’ rating is 18% and he leads half of it? The guy is just stupid. The President’s approval rating is 60% higher than Congress’ and Reid thinks the president is not doing a good job! So what kind of job does America think he is doing?

Pelosi, Reid, the Democrats, the left, and the liberals have us going backwards. They should be running the show and nothing has been done. And they still want to place blame on the President. There are about 20 days left in this legislative session and the Democrats have not passed one spending bill yet. And the President is doing a bad job they say!

It’s incredulous. What is really is incredulous is the number of Americans who support the ilk on the left. They think they are doing a great job. The Democrats will be kept in power in larger numbers than they have now in the coming elections? How much will gas cost two years from now? How high will the inflation rate be? Do you think they will have passed bills so they government can operate? It’s just all nuts. And it has to be. The Democratic Party is led by a bunch of nuts!! Enough said.

“I’m Not Giving Up A Kidney For Anyone”

leave a comment »

My wife was lying in the bed watching TV last week. I had been in the shower, dried off, put my clothes on and was walking out of the bathroom to come to my computer room and write. My wife stopped me and asked me the following question, “Would you give up a kidney for someone?”

Without batting an eye I said, “No way!”

She asked why not! “Wouldn’t you give a kidney to one of your buddies, or a family member, or how about me?”

I am not giving up a kidney to anyone for any reason at any time,” I told her. She asked why again!!

I figured I needed to at least give her an explanation. So this is what I told my lovely wife, “Look at this body. It is not the picture of health. The way I do things I figure I need all the parts that I have and help from some outside sources like medicines and such. I don’t think anyone would want either of my kidneys to start off with. With that said I am still not going to give up a kidney. I can see it now. I would give someone one of my kidneys. Let’s say it was you, my lovely wife. Then you have two kidneys and now I only have one. About five years down the road I get very sick and would need a kidney. You can’t give me mine back. You need it. So I’d have to wait for a donor kidney to save me. Remember, I only have one now. They would never find a good match for me. I would die a slow and agonizing death while you were doing well with the MY kidney. I would go on and die. You would get all the insurance money. People would sing my praises, my DEAD praises. You would live on with a lot of money and be able to get a young boyfriend to take care of you. All the while I’d be DEAD after dying a slow and agonizing death! They would name a race after me: The Cajunrooster Kidney Scramble. It would raise money for people who needed a kidney transplant. You would be the honorary starter for the race while I’d still be in the cemetery dead. You would be at the race in your fancy dress and Prada shoes with your new young boyfriend while I’d still be dead after dying a slow and agonizing death because they could not find a kidney for me after I gave you one years earlier. So I am going to keep both of my kidneys. I feel I am going to need them.”

Thursday Tipoff

leave a comment »

I have tipped off my Thursday and I am ready to go. I am going to be all over the court today at work, home and play. I just feel good and I am ready to get it all going. I don’t need any caffeine this morning to get my juices going. I am ready to take on the day.

It will be hot again today. It is summer here in south central Texas, but we have not hit the century mark lately nor is that number in sight. So it’s not that bad. We have no rain in sight. I will have to water my garden this afternoon. I will take a good look at it and see what I need to do. If I can get away without watering I will.

I think we are picking up at work just a little. Our survey crews are working 9 hours a day. The office stuff seems to be picking up. So I am hopeful things are going to begin to turn around.

I have been doing OK on my writing. I still need to do much better, but at least I am getting words down on the page. I continue to blog and that’s fine. I just need to write a lot of other stuff.

It’s time to go. I don’t have time to write anymore. More later!!

Is this wild or what?

Bear on Alaska pipeline

Bear on Alaska pipeline

Does this bear look affected by the Alaska pipeline and drilling in the area? It surely does not.

Look, I am not one that really favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I think we can drill offshore in plenty of areas we already have leased. We can find new deposits in areas that are not wildlife refuges. We can develop alternative fuels and types of energy. I am in favor of all that before we open up the ANWR to drilling. But…………..

This picture really gets to me. The people who oppose drilling in the ANWR tell us how it affects the animals there. I am just not buying that part of the argument. This bear looks like it thinks it owns the place. It’s obviously existing side by side with the pipeline and the drilling rig. This is really a wild picture.

I am not in favor of messing with areas where babies like this live. If the drilling and the wildlife can exist together then I am a little more inclined to let some drilling go on. We need to make sure we look at other areas where we can search for oil first. But the ANWR, it still might be an option for me after all. The bear does not seem to mind too much. And it LIVES there!!
